How do I begin the search for my ancestors?

There are many resources that can help you begin your ancestry research. You can search Social Security records and other records pertaining to military, birth, death, and marriage. You can contact the U.S. Census Bureau or the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration to obtain this information, or you can search online. The search for your ancestors can start by simply looking up your last name in the phone book and contacting and interviewing people with the same last name as yours. You can also contact the National Genealogical Society (http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/) for more information. You could even contact the genealogical society in your area.

The creation of the Internet has made research on any subject more accessible. The Internet is an invaluable asset to those trying to research their family tree. Sites like www.Ancestry.com, www.FamilySearch.org, and countless others can serve as resources to help you with your search for long lost family members. You can also perform surname searches on these sites.

The genealogy and ancestry search resources are vast and it can take many years to compile an accurate family tree. There is a lot of information to sift through, but in the end, if you persevere, your family and future generations will be indebted to you. A series of DNA tests can be performed to confirm that your time, effort, and money are not spent in vain.
